Thelma Louise Hammonds. . .

Today I lost my loving Thelma. Due to a terminal illness, my dad had to put her down today while I was at work. I was extremely sad, but I knew she was suffering. When I said goodbye to her this morning, it was as if she knew. She seemed sad, started shaking and put her head on my lap. It is never easy to say goodbye. . . . never easy to loose something. I guess I have been getting plenty of experience with this over the last several years. This dog was one of the most loving dogs that I have known. She loved everyone. Thelma, we love you and you will be missed. . . .

Rainbow Bridge:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I know how it feels to lose a pet...Poor Thelma. But, you still have Fritz! She has enough energy to compensate for the two of them!

I am sorry abour your loss. That makes me sad too... and I didn't even know Thelma. The insert was heart wrenching. I'm sure we all can relate - having had a pet dear to us that went away. ={

Hey, Sarah...I can totally relate to what you're saying here. Today has been exactly 7 years since Tinkerbell died. I got that little dog from Jim & Ruby Jones when I was only 4 years old, and she passed away when I was 18.
When you live with a pet like that for so long, and it sleeps on your bed at night and waits for you to get home from school everyday, and wags their tail and tries to always make you happy, you get so attached. I still carry a picture of Tinkerbell in my wallet to this day!
I think sometimes people think it's weird to be so attached to a pet, but there's something so non-judgmental, innocent, and innately good-natured about a pet dog. They truly are "man's best friend."
I'm sorry about Thelma, but at least she's not suffering now. It's good that you can still love Fritz, Mika, and Milo lots and lots!
