The Sound of Music ~ A Review

Janell, I stole your parents for the evening. . . . and I liked it!! mwuahahaha!!!!

Ok, so a group of us attended The Sound of Music at the 24th St. Theater last weekend. . . it was delightful! Many of plays have I seen at this theater, and all are worth the $20 admission price (with the exception of one which I will not name but which we left after the first scene and were able to get our money back). If you are unaware of the story line, here is a synopsis:

“In 1930's Austria, a young woman named Maria is failing miserably in her attempts to become a nun. When the Navy captain Georg Von Trapp writes to the convent asking for a governess that can handle his seven mischievous children, Maria is given the job. The Captain's wife is dead, and he is often away, and runs the household as strictly as he does the ships he sails on. The children are unhappy and resentful of the governesses that their father keeps hiring, and have managed to run each of them off one by one. When Maria arrives, she is initially met with the same hostility, but her kindness, understanding, and sense of fun soon draws them to her and brings some much-needed joy into all their lives--including the Captain’s. Eventually he and Maria find themselves falling in love, even though Georg is already engaged to a Baroness and Maria is still a postulant. The romance makes them both start questioning the decisions they have made. Their personal conflicts soon become overshadowed, however, by world events. Austria is about to come under the control of Germany, and the Captain may soon find himself drafted into the German navy and forced to fight against his own country.” Written by LOTUS73

If you would like to attend this performance you must hurry!! The last showing is on November 23! (also, I would recommend dining first at Crepeville, across the street from the theater)

Disney. . . a look at the past. . .

About a week and a half ago some beloved friends and I decided to go to Disney on Ice at Arco Arena in Sacramento. I have been to Disney on ice in AGES!!! It was Disney’s 100 years of magic show and included Finding Nemo, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, It’s a Small World, Aladdin, and many more!!! It was actually quite fun and entertaining (others in our group through it was silly and a waste of money . . . no names mentioned). You should have heard the way Clayton hollered “YEE-HAW” along with Woody in Toy Story, or Nolan Boo-ing the bad guy in Mulan. . . all of us were caught standing up and marching to the Mickey Mouse Song . . . you know the one. . M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E (spelled out) hehe. . . It was a step back in time for me. I think it is always good to do something like that every once in a while and just be a kid for a night. Sometimes it gets tiring being a grown up . . . . and sometimes it is wonderful! :-)

(At half time the smoke and fog from the production had an adverse reaction with my eyes, causing burning, itching and watering. Cool compresses had to be applied, thus the red appearance in the photos)

Doesn't Clayton look like he is having such a good time?? :-p

I love this weather!

Maybe it is just the new excitement that comes with the start of a new season. . . but I absolutely love this weather!! I love the rain, the cool chill to the air, the falling leaves, the coziness of being at home while the wind howls through the window panes. . . wonderful bliss! I will probably be quite ready for the wamth and freshness of spring come February, but for the moment I am reveling in the season of Fall.

Here are some alternatives I found to the traditional "umbrella"

Fictional Findings Discussed

I am a book fanatic. When I am in my “reading zone” I shant be disturbed or interrupted for any reason . . . it takes away from the impact of the words I have just processed. My family can attest to my reaction should one try to interrupt my rumination.
The written word is a powerful thing. . . It can transport one from the “real world” into a world of excitement, fantasy, dread and anticipation . . . that is also why one must be extremely careful in what they read. It is a dangerous thing to get caught up living through and in the fictional findings of literature and forget to live your own life which can be just as exciting and fulfilling (if not more so). With that being said, there are only a handful of things that I find more enjoyable than curling up on the sofa, in front of a fireplace, with a fuzzy throw blanket and a cup of hot coco reading a wonderful novel. Whether it is mystery, murder and intrigue (I would recommend Mary Higgins Clark), love, life and trust (Nicholas Sparks), thrilling with a medical perspective (Robin Cook), or one of the good ol’time classics (Lord of the Rings, Gone with the Wind, Jane Austen, Little Women, etc), I find pleasure and enjoyment in most everything I read. . . . . .which leads me to the purpose of this post. I have just finished reading the third book in a wonderful series, in my opinion, written by Christopher Paolini. The fourth book in the Inheritance Cycle will not be released for some time and I am currently looking for more literature with which to satiate my cravings. The readings must be worthwhile with wholesome content and highly recommended. Has there ever been a book or series that you have read that has changed the way you view something or has had some sort of impact on your life??? or maybe it was just a great read and you would recommend it to others? If so, please let me know :-) Feel free to comment and post on your favorite pieces of literature and why you would recommend them. . . . it will not only help me immensely, but also others who might be in the same quandary as I.

As for myself, I would recommend all of the above books and series as well books written by Francine Rivers (Mark of the Lion series is incredible!), The Count of Monte Cristo (written by Alexander Dumas), and some of Frank Peretti’s creations. I know there are many more that I have read and would recommend but at the present have slipped my mind.
